Notable Trailers from The Game Awards

The Game Awards have come and gone and while there weren’t any real surprises when it came to the awardees, there were a number of announcements that will keep people excited moving into the new year.

Here are a few that stood out:

Mortal Kombat 11

Hell yes! This was a bloody, brutal, and badass trailer that didn’t reveal anything in terms of actual gameplay, but at least Mortal Kombat is making a return. The sheer amount of graphic carnage being shown is not for the squeamish as both combatants are stabbed, electrocuted, immolated, and dismembered. Raiden and Scorpion can take some serious damage because it took a long while before either got put down for good. A worldwide gameplay premier will drop January 17, with a release date slated for April 23.

The Outer Worlds

A Sci-Fi open-world RPG from the original creators of Fallout, The Outer Worlds at first glance looks like it’ll be a combination of Fallout and Bioshock. There will be branching paths and dialogue, unique companions to recruit, and tech-heavy abilities to unlock. The narrative focuses on the player trying to wake his fellow coloners from hibernation as their ship went astray. It won’t all be so serious however, as the trailer displays a number of darkly humorous moments that will surely be prevalent throughout the game. Look for this sometimes next year.

Crash Team Racing Nitro Cart

One of the best racing titles from the PS1 returns with the remastered Crash Team Racing. While the trailer was light on details, the updated visuals were more than enough to create sufficient hype. This won’t end up dropping until June, which will allow more time for the developers to detail any new features that weren’t in the original title. More tracks, new abilities, and new characters would all be welcome additions and could help bring competition to the cart racing genre.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Hand

With the new Avengers Endgame trailer dropping, there isn’t a better time for a new Ultimate Alliance title. One of the bigger surprises of the show, Ultimate Alliance 3 looks to continue the team based beat-em up gameplay that made the series so much fun to pick up and play. An even bigger surprise is that this title will be a Switch exclusive, with Marvel being one of the hottest studios in entertainment, this is a huge win for Nintendo.

Persona 5 x Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Persona 5’s Joker is entering the Smash Bros. universe and I for one, could not be happier. This is a massive crossover solely because it could mean that the Persona series could potentially find it’s way to the Switch. Persona 5 is one of the best RPG’s of this generation and its going to be interesting to see how the character is implemented into Smash. This could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

The Last Campfire

An indie title from the creators of No Mans Sky, The Last Campfire looks to be a title in the same vein of journey. Players will control an ember embarking on a quest to find it’s way home. This looks gorgeous and the music from the trailer is fantastic. There is no release date currently, but with such a strong trailer, this is a title to look forward too. A return to the indie scene could do some good for Hello Games.
